It seems like, time has eluded me for the past couple of years. The more I complain about having less time, the less it becomes.

They say that if you want to learn something really well you should teach it. Well this weeks Young Women lesson was on time (Lesson 44: Using Time Wisely). Even though I didn’t teach it because I was so sick they let me go home, I did prepare for it. I learned some stuff I really needed to know right now to deal with my diminishing time issue.

My first light bulb went off with this statement:

“Possible reasons for wasting time:

  1. Not planning properly
  2. Not seeing clearly what needs to be done and what is most important to do first
  3. Procrastinating
  4. Not organizing time or tasks
  5. Not using proper tools or equipment or the best method to accomplish the task
  6. Filling time with unimportant things”

I do all of the above, the best part was the resolution to the wasting time problem:

Efficiency Expert’s Advice

  1. Write down the most important tasks to be performed.
  2. Number these in order of importance.
  3. Begin working on number one in the morning.
  4. When number one is completed, go to number two and so forth.
  5. Each evening, make a new list to be used the next day.

I have been doing this for the past couple of days and even being sick with a cold/flu (not sure which I have) I have managed to accomplish a few of the “important” things on the lists that I’ve made.

I am grateful for the opportunity that I have to be able to learn what I need when I need it. I’m a bit on the stubborn side, so sometimes the light bulb may come on and say ‘oh, good idea’ the heart doesn’t really feel like following the brain!

What do you do to try and manage your time wisely?
